If you're interested in exploring beyond the shores of
Ambergris Caye, there are many options for adventure The Mainland
The mainland of Belize, an hour away by boat, or 15 minutes by plane,
boasts many world-renowned Maya ruins, such as Altun Ha, Cahal Pech, Caracol,
El Pilar, Lamini, and Xunantunich. The famous ruins of Tikal reside just
over the border in Guatemala. Exploring these ruins and taking in the
views from atop is an extraordinary experience.
Other enjoyable alternatives inland are inner tubing or canoeing down jungle rivers or through underground caves, hiking or horse back riding in Belize’s beautiful jungle forestry, relaxing in a first class Spa, or visiting the memorable Belizean zoo. You could do any of these things on a day trip and still be back in plenty of time to watch the sunset on your private balcony. Islands Nearby
Other options worth considering are visiting either Caye Caulker or Caye
Chapel, our two neighboring islands. Caye Caulker is only twenty minutes
away by boat and is a great day trip. You could stop snorkel on your way
there, have lunch and explore the sleepy town, and snorkel or take in
the views on your way back. It’s a beautiful and quiet place to
spend an afternoon. Spotting groups of dolphins or individual sea turtles
along the journey to Caye Caulker is not uncommon.
Caye Chapel, only 40 minutes by boat from our location in San Pedro, is a private island that offers a stunning and challenging championship golf course. 18 holes and over 7000 yards await the golfer willing to risk his or her pride battling distracting views and numerous water hazards, such as the ever-present Caribbean. It's presently the only 18-hole golf course in Belize. Playing golf at Caye Chapel is truly an unforgettable experience and one we highly recommend. Scuba Diving in the AreaFor
divers considering calling Ambergris Caye their new home or who plan on
visiting often, in addition to the wonderful diving available along the
parts of Belize's Barrier Reef just off-shore, there are many other world-renowned
dive sites in Belize's Barrier Reef system accessible via day trips or
overnight stays leaving from Ambergris Caye. Included in that group is
The Blue Hole and three large atolls--found at Turneffe Islands, Lighthouse
Reef, and Glover's Reef.
