Views of The San Pedro Street Rehabilitation Project - April 2007 - 1
Over the past six weeks cobblestones have been laid along
San Pedro's Barrier Reef Drive, locally known as Front Street.
Formerly covered in sand, the cobblestones along Front Street will
make the road much more pleasant to walk and drive year round.
The project is being funded by contributions from local
government, private businesses, and the national government.
Here are hundreds of cobblestones soon to be installed along
the road.
The road is approximately two thirds of a mile in length.
The cross streets connecting Front Street with
Middle Street are also being laid with cobblestone.
On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings a large section of
Front
Street is closed to vehicular traffic and becomes pedestrian only.
This is where a food court was fomerly located. The area is
being rebuilt to create a new building to house the food vendors.
The project is 75% complete. The section that remains is pictured
here
. In the distance at the end of Front Street is The Phoenix.
