The
Phoenix Property One Week after Hurricane Dean - August 2007
The beachfront in front of The Phoenix
lost some sand due to the high storm surge.
Typically the rocks pictured here would be covered in sand, as
would the darker bases of each palm. As was previously planned,
the sea wall seen in these two pictures will be rebuilt later
this year.
The
last remaining Dock at The Phoenix sustained a good
amount of damage. This dock was scheduled for demolition
later this year. We will then build a new dock for the resort.
The
clean up along the beachfront of San Pedro
has proceeded very quickly. Here workers clean the
small amounts of sea grass that remain on the beach.
The
main difference on the property is that the
beachfront foilage is less dense. All
of the same palm
trees remain, but each has a few less palm leaves.
Soon
after the storm passed through a crew of 15 workers
cleared the debris Hurricane Dean deposited on the property.
In a couple of days the site was back to normal.
Building A sustained no damage whatsoever due to the Hurricane.
Here
is the western half of Building A, which was recently painted.
Building
C sustained no structural damage either.
Building
B was also not damaged.
Here can be seen crew members completing the finish plaster of
Building B after returning to work.
Building
D was also unscathed by the storm. The
handrails along D3 are being installed at this time.
This
picture shows the palms that remain standing in front of
Building D, which are slighly less dense than before the storm.
