Architecture of The Phoenix - April 2007
At dusk the remaining sunlight
gives The Phoenix a soft cream glow.
Step lights illuminate the Maya temple-like staircases.
Recessed lights built into the veranda
ceilings provide illumination outside.
The architecture of The Phoenix echoes the
works of famed Mexican architect Luis Barragan.
The Phoenix offers cantilevered balconies throughout the project.
The support for these thick verandas is hidden within the structure.
The condos were designed and oriented to offer
Caribbean views in as many directions as possible.
Numerous 8' tall windows and doors were installed in each condo to bring the views of the Caribbean and tropical landscaping inside each condo
.
The spacious cantilevered verandas provide large
areas of shade for first and second floor condos.
The wooden pergolas pictured here provide shade on the third floor
. Umbrellas will also be provided to create shade on these verandas.
A large hedge along the western property line
separates The Phoenix from the beachfront.
The condos of The Phoenix were each given spacious verandas
because of the beautiful weather most of the year
on Ambergris Caye.
This staircase, which was built in front of the hallway leading to
the second floor condos,
provides access to the 3rd floor condos.
The final element of Building D will be the installation of a stainless
steel cable handrail system on the second and third floor verandas
.
