The Phoenix is located on the original site of The Paradise Resort Hotel, the second hotel ever built on Ambergris Caye and a popular vacation destination for over 40 years. Long before there was The Phoenix, in the early 1970s Jerry McDermott and his wife Linda visited San Pedro and fell in love with the sleepy fishing village. They soon built The Paradise Resort Hotel.

For many years The Paradise’s bar and dock were a favorite among locals, while its thatch cabanas were a rustic getaway for many of the first visitors to Ambergris Caye. They sold their hotel in 1991 and moved to the mainland of Belize.

In 2004 Jerry and Linda bought back their original venture and from the ashes and rubble of The Paradise Hotel brought The Phoenix to life. The Phoenix now provides a new generation of visitors to Ambergris Caye a memorable vacation just like The Paradise did for so many years.
